My Kinda Christmas Decor
The Girls with Glasses teamed up with Rue magazine for a to-die-for Holiday spread called Jingle Girl Rock, shot at the Elvis Wedding Night Hideaway. Our tree has been up for a few nights now, and this was the perfect inspiration to get decorating! I lovelovelove the color scheme! The first of two videos below, done by Shark Pig, is an inspiration piece to go along with the shoot, but I may love the second video even more, which is a behind the scenes peek!

My mom just gave me a small 4ft white tree that I'm going to decorate for our back family room! The shoot's styling was done by the two girls from Bash, Please, and with the color scheme, fawns, and 50's vibe, could not be more spot on! I love their blog!

I am smitten with Feather Love's photography, & her blog is definitely worth a peek if you have any interest in photography. Her use of light, and the warmth it gives to her shots, is so inspiring to me. These are the elements I would love to bring to my own shots someday...
Photography is definitely a focus for me for 2011. Goodness, that sounds crazy, "2011"! In the mean time, I going to watch the behind the scenes video, just one more time... okay, maybe, twice. ;)

NYC... a little peek.

Kermit, a Smurf and Snoopy, oh my...
My favorite windows were definitely Tiffany's... such great use of paper!
With great friends in Times Square, who cares about a little rain.
Rockefeller Center to really get us in the mood for the holidays...
And what's a trip without a mini curb side cupcake, the perfect black Friday pick me up!
But perhaps my favorite part of the trip (with the exception of seeing Molly Shannon, Sean Hayes and Kristen Chenoweth on Broadway, but I was promptly told, "Young lady, you are NOT allowed to take pictures in here!" At least she called me young... ;) was my shopping experience at the Impossible Project NYC, but more on that later! It did feel very odd to be away on Thanksgiving, and even stranger to have chips, salsa, and a quesadilla instead of the classic turkey dinner, but it was a great trip! Although I was ready to come home, I'm already planning my next adventure... I think it's some sort of disease.  We'll call it Wanderlust-itis.  It may just be an epidemic amongst me and my cronies...

Hugs, and hope you all had a wonderful, wonderful Thanksgiving.

Packing my Bag..

My laundry is all done, my bags are laid out, and since my two work days next week are a bit hectic, I need to get myself all packed this weekend... Leave it to those ultra cute Girls With Glasses to provide some inspiration!

A Good-Bye...

It's been quiet here at the blog for a few days now, and with just cause.  This past weekend we said good-bye to my beloved Grandmother.  And with my sadness, there just weren't any words... So in attempt to break the block, I thought I would pay tribute to the most amazing mother/wife/grandmother/sister/friend any of us have ever known....
My first introduction to the greatness of giant shades, something that will stay with me a lifetime...
Both my Grandparents on their land up north, where they raised their four kids
My Grandma with my mother on their European trip. This is Carnaby Street in London, and yes, those are monkeys my mother is holding!

We will love you and miss you forever Grandma, and I will think of you everytime I put on my big shades.

With Love Forever,
Ash xo

evening light...

I don't know if it's the shorter days, the crispness in the air or the unique colors of winter evenings, but lately I can't get enough of warmly backlit photos...

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I am off to spend what's left of mine with a cup of tea and my sketch book.

The Start of an Epic Journey

Yesterday we dropped our long time friend Joey off at the airport for the start of a new adventure.  Joe has left his job at as a flight nurse here in Orlando and is moving to Australia! (check out JB in my minty sunnies! hehe. it was super bright & he forgot his shades in his car! ;)

The Start of Joe's Epic Journey
En route to the airport, Joe shared with us a tradition of "breaking" an apple and sharing it for good luck before departing on a journey.  He taught me how to split the apple with just my hands.

After we dropped Joe off, JB and I stopped and got our first red cup of the season and discussed all sorts of possibilities the future may hold.  (We also hit up Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie...;)
First red cup of the year
Even though it was super sad to say good-bye to our friend, we couldn't be happier for him, (and can't wait to visit!) so yesterday was a great kick-off to this chilly weekend! Winter is definitely comin'!

Stay Warm,

Happy Halloween!

I'm sure it's no surprise that I chose to be a bird for Halloween!  When I told one of my client's at work that I was being a bird for Halloween, she said to me, 'You must need to be free.' I felt like saying, 'Friend, you have no idea...'

I got the idea for the pillow case dress from Seablanket's contribution to A Beautiful Mess' 12 Days of Tricks and Treats, which was awesome! The beak and little head dress were little things I added myself. (in that pic above the breeze is blowing my "feather" down!)

JB dressed up as a bee, so that made us the bird and the bee... ;)
the bird & the bee...
We went to a little family party and it was great! My cousin's wife Danielle had decorated the house all up and it was so much fun to answer the door for trick-or-treaters! One little boy said to me, 'Hey, I like your nose.' Umm, thanks... ;)
savvy crafter #4
So the dress was obviously Savvy Crafter Project #4, and I hope to post project #3 in the next few days! It was super fun to make, but time consuming. I definitely spent most of my weekend sewing! And as today is October 31st, I officially made it through my Savvy Crafter Challenge! All 31 days, not a single item purchased and four projects completed! Woot-woot! (But you can bet this week's lunch money that I'll be hitting up Michael's tomorrow, for sure!)

I hope everyone had a great Halloween, I can't wait to see everybody's pictures up on the blogs this week!

Major Girl Crush

Yep, I'm kinda in love and don't care who knows it! These two girls (with their glasses!) and the videos they make are the cutest, funniest thing I've come upon in quite a while!
Who else wants to start a petition to get them their own show? I'd totally watch!

A Stockpile of Thrifting Goodness

Recently we have acquired quite a few new treasures and I wanted to share! Let's start things off with this pretty a-ma-zing cathrineholm collection JB happened upon the other day while in our favorite local spot, Our Old Stuff.  This little corner of our kitchen is quickly becoming one of my favorite in the house!
The teapot is actually one of two he got, you can see the other here, and he also found the canisters at the same time. The chip and dip set was actually a birthday present from a dear friend who is about to depart permanently to Australia, and has to pare down his belongings (there are several other items on our little tour from the same source! Thanks Joe, we'll miss you.) Also notice the cart? That was another recent score and we replaced the shelf inserts with white MDF for a quick little diy face lift. The glass jars with the coordinating wood tops were purchased from Goodwill, and were actually meant for my craft room, but they just looked right there, and were perfect for holding up that plate!
Here we have some lovely seating additions to our eat in kitchen, again purchased from our departing friend. I love the color combo and the vinyl is super easy to clean, so perfect for the kitchen.  Below are a few recent glass purchases, again from our friend (that boy's got good taste!), some of which have a found a home, and some of which have not...
And then we hit the thrifting lottery and found this guy!!
This is an original Herman Miller Time Life chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1960 for the lobby of the Time Life building!!! It's brown leather with chrome legs, and I just love that small fabric rectangle on the back!
The bird painting above is one of several pieces of art we got from our friend, and below is an owl that he gave to me!
Slowly but surely over the last year our little house has started to fill up with things that we love! I can maybe even feel a small purge coming on, maybe a garage sale in the near future... I could definitely use a little cash for my impending trip, which I don't think I've mentioned yet....
I am meeting two of my closest friends in New York City for Thanksgiving weekend!!!! Yea! JB has to work on Turkey Day this year, so we thought it was the perfect year for a girls only Macy's Day Parade/tons of black Friday shopping/eating all the good food we can kinda trip!

Thanks for taking a look at some our new goodies! What awesome thrifting scores have you guys made lately??
