An Unexpected Turn of Events and Book*Love

This week went nothing like I had anticipated, but really, what week does I guess.  John has already been gone for 7 days and doesn't come home till early Monday morning. I thought this week of flying solo would be nothing short of a Craft-A-Palooza, with some serious blogging mixed in, but alas that was not the case.
If you remember last week I posted about having my freckle removed, and the "precautionary" antibiotic they put me on gave me a horrible allergic reaction that landed me on my folks couch in a Benedryl haze... and while the allergic reaction subsided by Monday night, it seemed like the Benedryl hangover lasted until Wednesday and I didn't get my mojo back until Thursday evening.

While the blog and craft aspirations I had for this week didn't get done, it wasn't a total loss.  In addition to being slammed at work (which equals cash for impending trip!), I got some quality time in with the fam and some friends, who were all nice enough to feed me several times throughout the week.  But maybe my favorite part of this week was starting to read this...

The Lost Girls hits all my requirements for a "can't put it down, my eyes are sore from reading all weekend" type of book. The story chronicles three twenty-something girls as they ditch their fast paced NYC lives to travel the world for a year.  As someone who has put my all consuming desire to get outta dodge and see the world on hold for far too long, this book feels like a wanderlust inducing drug!
My husband might come home to all our stuff packed up and a for sale sign in the yard.... John you better hurry home ;)

Ideas, Dreams, and Wishes...

Above is my journal/idea book. I love gathering supplies and making little mini inspiration boards on the pages almost as much as I love getting through to the final product! Today on that blank page above I am going to work on jotting down some goals for the upcoming week, as well as the next couple of months, and maybe sketch and plan a few items. (I know, I know, nerd alert, right?) But seriously, getting the thought down on paper helps me so much! What about you guys, do you ever sketch out ideas? What about writing down goals?

Be Back Soon :)

Strawberry Shortcake Band-Aids

I had to have my signature freckle removed this week. It had been giving me issues for awhile, so I bit the bullet and went to see the dermatologist. She wanted to remove it (yikes!) for biopsy, which had me shakin' in my boots, but turned out when she scraped it off my poor little cheek, she found a cyst, which was most likely the cause of all the freckle-strife. To be on the safe side we are going to have the biopsy anyway, but hopefully now that the cyst has been removed (she cut it out. ugh.) all the problems will cease.

I was a bit more emotional about having a crater carved in my cheek than I thought I would be, but I mean come on, it's my face! So I asked my ever accommodating hubby to stop and get some "cute" band-aids, bc the round beige thing just wasn't doing it for me. So we picked up some of these adorable Strawberry Shortcake ones, and with my fading hair color it seemed apropos.

We are getting John all ready for his send off, he is leaving early, early tomorrow morning for a 10 day "boys only" surf trip to Nicaragua. (Don't feel too bad for me, we are going on a little surf adventure together in June...) I am trying to not be sad, but I will definitely miss my boy! But in an attempt to ward of a lonely heart I am compiling a list of goals for the next ten days to keep me occupied!
(I will try to post it later tonight or tomorrow morning)

I hope everyone had a great week and woot-woot for the weekend!

ps. You see that puke beige wall behind me? Well that is the last one of it's kind in our little abode, and it's life span is not long... I'll keep you posted :)

Mother's Day Crafting Frenzy

So, I have been trying to make gifts for people more and more, and Mother's Day was no exception. I wasn't around much last week in bloggerville because of some serious "sweat shop" style crafting, as I like to call it, in order to get these babies done....

I made check book covers for my mom, my mother-in-law, my favorite aunt and my cousin's wife, four fabulous women and mothers. You'll notice there are five, you see my four legged furry child, Sydney, needed a present for mommy, so I kept one too! ;)

I hope everyone liked their gifts!

I'll be honest, I'm not 100% comfortable with giving only a handmade gift yet, sometimes supplementing with a small store bought item as well. I think maybe this stems from lack of confidence in my work. Anyone else deal with this? Is it appropriate to give handmade items exclusively? I think it is, but I would love to hear other people's opinions!

Thanks for taking a look and I'll be back soon :)

We Had A Little Visitor In Our Garden

Or maybe I should say under our garden, as we have a container garden that is nearly 3 feet off the ground! Check out this little guy that hung out in the shade of our planter box for awhile last Thursday!

I think turtles are good luck, aren't they? I'm gonna say they are... ;)

In our garden we are growing purple pole beans (secretly, I have no actual idea what purple pole beans taste like, so here's hoping they are good! If anyone has any de-lish recipes they want to share, that would be most appreciated!), zucchini squash, bell peppers, a summer blend of lettuces, and swiss chard!

I will have to post more recent pictures, because everything has just shot up over the past week! It is so neat how you plant this teeny-tiny little seed in some dirt, give it sunlight and water, and presto, you can grow food!!

Later tonight will post some pics of my Mother's Day gifts, they were a hit, thank goodness ;)

"Sweat Shop" Crafting

Sorry for my absence, I have been doing a little of I like to call "sweat shop crafting". You know, where you have a deadline (say, for instance, Mother's Day...) looming and you essentially lock yourself in until all is finished. I will post some pics of my gifts Sunday after all has been given/received! Also we had a little "visitor" yesterday in our back yard, and I hope to post some pics by the end of the weekend...
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend, and Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

I Love My Surfer Boy

I am not the only creative one in this household, check out what my hubby has been up to...

He is currently working on shaping himself a surfboard, start to finish!

This is no easy feat, to shape what starts out as a rectangular block of foam (his is made from sugarcane, so it is as environmentally friendly as possible!) down to a usable surfboard, where 1/4 inches, minute curves, and subtle angles can make all the difference. He is using our friend's shaping bay over at the Goon Squad, check 'em out, they are a creative crew of boys!

Good job baby, I am so proud of you and can't wait for you to make me a surfboard! ;)

Weekend Project

Here's a little peek at what kept me busy yesterday....

I made this yoga bag for my good friend Nikki for her birthday, I hope she liked it!
I am in the process of making similar things to build a stock for my future Etsy store!

Thanks for taking a look, I hope you all had a great weekend, I have to get outside and enjoy the sunshine some today, all day yesterday was spent in the craftroom!!
