Today Felt Like a Sigh of Relief

Today was spent with the sun on our backs, the wind in our hair and the ocean's salt on our skin...

After a few weeks of just trying to keep my head above water with school, work, and, well, just life, today was a welcome reprieve. We spent the day outside, out on our bikes, and at the beach. Then with sun warmed skin and slightly freckled cheeks, we relaxed the evening away with a cold beer and a funny movie. The only thing that would have made today any better would have been if the ocean would've been warm enough for a surf in a bikini, but those days are on the way, you can just feel it.

What I Need to Hear

A little pep talk with myself...

No one said this was going to be easy. That which is easy is rarely worth our time. As dad said, 'if it was easy, everyone would do it'. Four months from now, you will look back through your portfolio in awe of your work's transformation. I promise, you will, but you have to let go, stop worrying. Instead of trying hard, simply work hard. Transformation will not come from a place of fear.  Fear repels growth. You are relearning how to see. You must be very patient with yourself, because like fear, frustration is stunting. And remember, procrastination is perfectionism's minion, you'll rarely encounter one without the other. Be brave, be open to mistakes, and most importantly, be patient. And take pictures. Lots of pictures.

99th Post and A Craft Show

I haven't blogged in over a week, but with good reason.  I decided Sunday night to join a small craft show that my cousin Danielle was participating in, and since the show was on Friday, that left me 4 days to prepare. Not only that, work was super busy and I had two school functions (one was very cool, I will share more about later!) in addition to my two normal classes, so it's safe to say I've been burning the candle at both ends. But I gotta say, I was amazed at how much I could accomplish when I really got down to business... and committed to sleeping a bit less! ;)
Here's a peek at my little table. I used my Orla Kiely table cloth and JB made me some signage out of leftover MDF board we had lying around the garage that we cut to size and just sprayed with chalkboard spray paint, which by the way, may be my new favorite product! So easy!  I whipped up this felt heart garland, inspired by this here, for Valentine's day.
One of my favs are the felt birds! I love to make these little babies! I made a whole little bird family, and with the clothespin base, they easily attach to the edge of of a table, a fold of fabric, or a string of, ahem, garland, and can even stand up alone.
Another V-day item were these chalkboard Love Notes. The small 'notes' could be turned into magnets, but were great on there own to give someone a reusable Valentine, and each came with a felt heart eraser and of course a piece of chalk!
There were also some headbands and some earrings made from vintage buttons out for sale.  Overall, I would say I did fair with my take away.  The show was put on by a local mom's group, led by the crafty girl behind The Wooden Bee, and there were about 12 other super talented vendors, but the demographic may not have been the best for my stuff.  It seemed like a lot of people were purchasing items for kids (which makes total sense being a mom's group!), but I did make  a few sales and had one uber-cute customer who made several purchases and was a fellow bird lover. Regardless of sales, it was awesome to meet such nice fellow crafters, and it's always a great, great thing to have handmade products being made available locally, so hooray for that!
So with the craft show behind me, it is now time to get down to business with school.  I've got film to develop and of course lots and lots of photo's to take.  My teacher wants us shooting at least 5 rolls of 36 exposures every week, which is a lot more than it sounds! I do have a quite a bit of stock leftover from the show, so perhaps it's time to pull the trigger on an Etsy store...

And one more thing, this is my 99th post, which means my next post will the 100th post here on the blog, and I think that means a giveaway is in order. Stop by tomorrow to enter!

Ps. I must say thank you a hundred times over to JB for all the help he gave me this past week, I could not have done it you baby!
